Nogales Transit Feasibility Review and Implementation Plan: Public Workshop

Located on the border between the United States and Mexico, Nogales, Arizona is a developing city with unique transportation conditions. Nogales serves as the commercial center and county seat of Santa Cruz County, yet the City has no municipal transit system.

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the City of Nogales have joined together to explore the feasibility of initiating public transportation within the City. Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates has been hired to assist with this effort.

Public input will be a critical component for the Nogales Transit Feasibility Review and Implementation Plan. The Project Team will host a series of public workshops during the course of the project. The first public workshop will focus on establishing the community’s goals and objectives, describing the benefits of transit, and discussing preliminary service route options.

"I encourage the residents of Nogales to participate in this public meeting. We are making progress toward accomplishing our goal of having a reliable transit system, and we need your ideas," said Council Member Armando Lopez. He added, "This system will be used by Nogales residents and visitors, so I would like to take this opportunity to invite the people of Ambos Nogales to give us their input on the proposed Transit System."

The first public workshop will be held at Nogales City Hall, 777 North Grand Avenue on Tuesday, May 9th, from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. Times and locations for future public workshops will be announced as the project advances.
